Bio
Dr. Oyesola Ojewunmi is a Senior Research Fellow in Genomics at the Precision Healthcare University Research Institute (PHURI), Queen Mary University of London, within the Genomics Diversity group led by Prof. Segun Fatumo. His research focuses on the genetic architecture of complex diseases in underrepresented populations, particularly Africans. He applies advanced statistical and computational methods to genome-wide association studies, fine-mapping, and trans-ethnic meta-analysis, with major projects on chronic kidney disease and sickle cell disease.
Dr. Ojewunmi previously worked at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at King’s College London, where he led a landmark study of fetal haemoglobin in Nigerian sickle cell patients, earning multiple awards.
Beyond research, he is dedicated to teaching, mentorship, and capacity building in genomics and data science for African scientists. He also serves as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Haematology and faculty for the GRASP programme.
