Bio

Dr. Jean-Tristan Brandenburg has a broad range of interests in molecular bioscience and human genomics, with a growing focus on kidney disease. His research applies bioinformatics to address complex genetics problems and analyse large-scale genomic data. Over the years, his work has included studies of genetic diversity and population genetics in humans, fungi, and maize (corn) using whole-genome sequencing; detection of rare mutations through sequencing approaches; and genetic association studies linking genotype and phenotype using high-coverage data, particularly in cardiovascular and cancer genetics. More recently, his research has emphasised the epidemiology of kidney disease in Africa, combining genomic and population-based analyses to uncover insights into genetic risk factors and disease mechanisms.
